"When we first arrived on the land to set up the Patika Project, our immediate priority was to construct some structures to meet our essential needs.  Our journey started with the construction of a toilet-shower area and an open kitchen where we could prepare meals. In time, Patika has continued to grow with the addition of some wooden huts and a stone house."

In order to realise the Patika Project and to create the necessary space, a plan was developed on the basis of Erol’s education in permaculture to develop the soil. Thus a design was developed taking into account such diverse considerations as the best means of benefiting from water and sunlight, managing waste, use of wood and stone and the distribution of plants in the field.

The rest came about after months of effort from Patika’s residents, neighbours and passing travellers.  As we did so much of the work ourselves, we came to acquire skills in diverse areas ranging from stone construcitons to roofing, from plumbing to tiling. Thus, though we may have progressed somewhat slowly, the work has set deep roots in us at every stage.
